Kentucky Derby Museum

The Kentucky Derby around here is like the Super Bowl so like true residents of Kentucky we are getting ready for all the events. We thought we should get educated about it's history and learn all we need to so that we could hold a conversation about it with the local people. Yes, it is that serious. This picture is of Anna Nicole Smith's Dress and hat that she wore.
They have wall after wall of hats worn by famous people and this is by far my favorite part of the Kentucky Derby. You are not required to dress up, but it is part of the tradition to dress up and wear a hat.

This horse has placed third in the Kentucky Derby. He is well respected because a typical race horse wins about a million dollars in their career. This bad boy has won eight million! May not have placed first but he did very well for himself;)

Home Sweet Home.....for now anyways!

J.R. finished up the Captain's Career Course in Lawton, Oklahoma on March 17th and we spent that entire week messing with the packers and movers taking our things. We took off to Missouri to drop the boys off with my mom and headed to Fort Knox, Kentucky to find a place. Thank you mom for helping us out as the task of finding a new place is always daunting and the boys would have been going crazy. Once we found a place and the Army moved us in, we headed back to Missouri to pick the boys up, then back to Kentucky to finish unpacking. It has been exhausting moving twice in seven months but we are very happy to call this place home for the next two years.

March Maddness

We decided that with Grant it took way too long to get him potty trained so we have started to introduce him to the potty much sooner. He likes getting up there and swinging his feet, playing with the potty seat cushion, and flushing the toilet. Once the fun is over, which is about two minutes after it started, he gives us this scrunched up face to let us know it is "game over." Can't blame us for trying!

March was full of fun for Grant as well. He had many doctor appointments, recovered from the flu, and once again had croup. We were informed that at Grant's age this shouldn't be happening so he had to undergo numerous tests to check if his airway structure was okay. Turns out he is anatomically correct and it might be his tonsils that need to come out. He is overjoyed by this notion;)

January 15th, 2011!!! My baby turns 1!

With all the bad weather we had in January we were forced to go with plan b for Ryan's first birthday. It was still a lot of fun. He wasn't so sure about the cake and blowing out candles but once he figured out that mashing the cake all around and throwing it was considered okay today, he dug in like a champ:)

We weren't very familiar with what Lawton, Oklahoma had to offer for little ones so we looked around and found a place called Laugh Out Loud. He had a blast playing ski ball, riding the motorcycle video games, playing in the bouncy balls, and eating pizza.
Even though there were a lot of things to keep him entertained he still stayed true to himself and decided that playing with the door would be the most fun. He is and will always be our little door man!
After a day of fun he was tuckered out and fell alseep for the rest of the evening. It was a lot of fun and bittersweet seeing our baby turn into a toddler overnight.
